Are you open year round?
YES. We have been open year-round for several years now!
We’re only closed on Easter Sunday, Thanksgiving Day, Black Friday, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.
If there’s a major snow or ice storm, check our Facebook Group for announcements about whether we’re opening late, closing, closing early, etc.

what are your hours of operation?
Before Memorial Day Weekend, we are open seven days a week, from 11:30 AM to 9 PM.
From Memorial Day Weeknd through the end of Labor Day Weekend/Labor Day, we are open seven days a week, from 11:30 AM to 10 PM.
If you’re ordering hot food, no matter how your order is placed (in person, online, via the Joe’s Dairy Bar app, via telephone, etc.) PLEASE NOTE you may place your hot food order up until 30 minutes before closing on any given night.

Is There a Hot Food menu?
We used to have a paper menu, but nowadays we just refer people to our online menu because it’s the best way to keep up to date.
CAN I GET A DISCOUNT?
You can get all sorts of discounts and sales for our email list subscribers, so join them by clicking here.
what methods of payment do you accept?
We accept cash, all credit cards and debit cards.
We also take “contactless forms of payment” such as Apple Pay and Google Wallet, etc.
(We do NOT accept this form of payment yet, BUT we’ll update the FAQ as soon as all of the programming is done in our computer system.)
We do NOT accept checks. Not for anything. That includes cake orders or “big orders” of any kind. #OnceBittenTwiceShy (IYKYK)

Can I GET A CUSTOM ICE CREAM CAKE?
You can, but…brace yourself. We have numerous pages of ice cream cake models to choose from, broken down alphabetically by holiday/event!

Your order is NOT considered placed until you call us at 845-221-0488 and set up arrangements for payment and schedule your cake’s pickup.

WHAT ARE JDB ORIGINALS?
Our JDB Originals are designer desserts that we handcraft, often completely from scratch, entirely on our premises.
That means if there’s brownies in the JDB Original in question, we bake the brownies.
That means if there’s chocolate chip cookies in the JDB Original in question, we make and bake the chocolate chip cookies.
We really make a lot of our goodies from scratch (or pretty darn close).
Some JDB Originals are evergreen (especially because we’re open year round) and some are seasonal only.

WHAT ARE FREAK SHAKES?
Lucky us–we were one of the first to the table to create Freak Shakes in the United States and the public (as well as the media) adored them!
The Freak Shakes are designer milkshakes that are piled high with layers of decadent toppings or desserts (think donuts, slices of cake, candy, etc.).
You will not complain that you’re still hungry or not full after eating one of these desserts, we promise you.
They are designer desserts that beg for food selfies/photo ops. (Your social media feeds will love you for it).
These things are gargantuan and do NOT travel well, though, so get ready to consume them on premises.
You just have to try one; after all, The Poughkeepsie Journal went so far as to put the JDB Freak Shake on their Bucket List.

ARE YOU HIRING?
You know, it never hurts to ask. Most of our employees remain with us for anywhere from 6 to 10 years (true story).
We are a very fun place to work, but keep in mind, it’s a very physical job and super fast-paced.
Also, typically, if you don’t have night and weekend availability, we might not be a match.
You do need to be 16 years of age for us to consider you as a candidate and you must (no exceptions) have your own transportation.
And, no matter what the position you’d work in: this is manual labor, it’s often very messy, you’ll be on your feet for hours at a time.
Please don’t ask us to pay you off the books. We do NOT do that.
You will have to fill out paperwork and provide all the data and forms of identification that both federal and New York State law requires. (No exceptions).
You can’t be shy, you must be willing to get dirty and work hard and you absolutely, positively must provide service with a smile for our customers who are “ohana” or family for us here at Joe’s Dairy Bar. We do have a great corporate culture, but you must be a team player.
